The surname she uses is Bea to honor her late father. Aisling Cliodhnadh O'Sullivan was born in Kildare town County Kildare on 16 March 1984. She was the daughter of Brian O'Sullivan. Brian was an equine veterinarian who died when Bea was three years old though she was not told the cause of his death until she reached the age of 13 years old. The stage name she chose was Bea to pay tribute to her late father. Bea also wrote an article for The Guardian on her family's suicide story. Bea, along with her sister Sinead was raised in the home of Helen Moloney (n e Moloney) an ex-jockey and teacher at a secondary-school. Her family were racing and horse-related. Bea began her career as a tour-guide for the Irish National Stud. However Bea realized at an early age that the racing industry wasn't for her.
